The Albanese Government is continuing to improve road safety and accessibility, including funding towards a bridge upgrade over the Elwood Canal in Macnamara.
This investment will extend the lifetime of the Broadway Bridge and allow road limits to be lifted while preserving its heritage qualities and accessibility for pedestrians, cyclists and buses.
The Albanese Government is committing $2,032,500 to the project under the Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program (SLRIP), with matched funding from the City of Port Phillip.
This is part of a more than $86.2 million nationwide commitment under the latest tranche of the program.
The SLRIP commenced on 1 July 2024 to provide funding for projects to address current and emerging priorities in road infrastructure needs. At least $200 million per year is available under the program.
