Strong Climate Targets
One of our first acts when we came to Government was legislating the Climate Change Act 2022, which enshrined our climate targets in law - net zero by 2050, and 82% renewables by 2030.
This year, for the first time, more than 50% of Australia’s energy grid is powered by renewable energy.
Becoming a Renewable Energy Superpower
The Capacity Investment Scheme is delivering 40 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030, attracting more than $73 billion in private investment.
As part of our Future Made in Australia Plan, we are also investing over $20 billion in renewable industries, including:
- $10.7 billion in green hydrogen
- $7 billion in critical minerals
- $1 billion in green iron
- $1 billion in solar panel manufacturing
- $500 million for battery manufacturing
Renewable Jobs & Infrastructure
The Rewiring the Nation program is investing $20 billion to modernise our energy grid and improve transmission infrastructure.
The Energy Industry Jobs Plan is investing $44.4 million to help transition fossil fuel industry workers, and $134.2 million for skills and employment support.
And our 30% discount on home batteries is helping Australian households, businesses and community organisations harness solar energy and save on their power bills.
Emissions Reduction
Thanks to the Safeguard Mechanism, Australia's largest greenhouse gas emitters are cutting their CO2 emissions - down 12% or 5.8 million tonnes since our reforms came into effect.
The New Vehicle Efficiency Standard is reducing transport emissions by more than 60% by 2030, and will save motorists $95 billion in fuel costs by 2050.
And the Agriculture and Land Sector Plan is working to support Australian framers and producers to decarbonise.
